The inaugural All Star Showdown was a huge success, thanks to the many talented players who absolutely put on a show at Dougherty Valley. The 2012 Showdown will take place immediately after the NCS Final, will have the 2012/2013 Showdown on the Varsity and the 2014/2015 Showdown on the JV and will be the first Showcase event of the summer. The EBAL had command of the weekend as they went 3-0 to capture bragging rights for the next year. However, there were many players from the DFAL and HAAL that made loud statements about their abilities. Read below to see which players stepped their game up and stood out in the Showdown…
Anthony Villa (San Ramon Valley) was voted the MVP as he went 4-7 with a double, was a defensive standout and general leader on the field. The Top College Prospect was Daniel Gallagher (Monte Vista), who is 6’5, carries a 3.9 GPA, registered 89 MPH and consistently threw a plus breaker for strikes. Eric Nielsen (Dublin) was the most fascinating story of the Showdown and was named the Top Pro Prospect. Eric, who is a 6’8 basketball standout (and 2013 grad), clocked in at 94 MPH and showed very good poise on the mound! Zak Gainor (Las Lomas) dazzled the crowd with his outfield play and was named the Top Defensive Player. Brett Barbier (San Ramon) went 4-7 and used all fields well (in addition to having plus running speed and collecting extra base hits) to take the Top Offensive Player award. Finally, Dylan Hecht (Foothill) clocked in at 89 MPH on both days, showed a plus change up and a breaker for strikes, making him the 2011 Showdwon’s Top Pitcher.
